The Chink in My Armour

I don't look anything like this beautiful warrior,
nevertheless, I am a soldier.

There are many reasons I am a fighter,
for I am part of a war.
A war is going on around us, even as we sit quietly to read the morning paper.
The unseen battle rages day after day, with innumerable ranks in combat,
in the conflict of the ages.

The war between good and evil.
We must keep our eyes open and our swords sharp.
The only way to ensure our safety in this struggle,
is to be in constant communication with the Commander-in-Chief.
The strategy is well laid out in the Word of God.

We even have a suit of armor, built in the best armory ever.
The complete soldier's protection is given to us, piece by piece.

The Belt of Truth:
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."  - John 14:6

The Breastplate of Righteousness:
For God's Kingdom is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of the righteousness, peace, and joy which the Holy Spirit gives.
 - Romans 14:17

The Shoes of Peace:
Jesus replied, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
 - John 14:27

 The Shield of Faith:
Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible."
- Matthew 17:20

The Helmet of Salvation:
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God
- Ephesians 2:8

The Sword of the Spirit:
For the word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and of spirit,
of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
 - Hebrews 4:12

After Jesus left His disciples standing wide -eyed and jaws dropped,
with more than a little sadness, they watched Him ascend into the heavens.

He didn't abandon them.
He promised He would never leave, or forsake them.

That promise still stands for us today.
The Spirit of God dwells within each and every believer.
We must choose daily to open our hearts and minds to what He has to say to us.
The Word of God is from the heart of God.
It is our love letter and survival manual.
In those pages we have our instructions,
our corrections, our training, and our encouragement.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
 - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

So when life is much to hard to endure,
we are reminded again and again to fight on our knees.

If we forget even one piece of armor for each day,
there is an opening for the enemy to get in the way of our strength from God.

If I put on my complete suit provided by the Commander,
but I am sloppy in how I applied it,
I will be an easy target.
For the enemy knows when and where to strike the hardest.
The chink in the armour will be exposed.

Don't try to do it on your own. It's not really our fight, any way.

WE must, in military terms -
"Keep your head on a swivel"
to
"Stay alert, stay alive."

But ultimately the battle is the Lord's.
